Peter Katina is a Slovak accordionist who focuses mainly on contemporary music. He studied the accordion playing in Slovakia at the Academy of Performing Arts in Bratislava and in Denmark at the Carl Nielsen Academy of Music in Odense. He gives regular concerts in Slovakia and in several European countries and he gave the first performances of several new compositions for solo accordion by composers such as Nørgård, Graugaard, Podprocký, Iršai, Čekovská and many others; as well as concertos for accordion and orchestra by Igor Dibák and Jozef Kolkovič. Peter Katina appeared at concerts in Denmark, Great Britain, Germany, Poland, Hungary and Serbia. He performed at festivals Poznań Music Spring, Arcus Temporum Pannonhalma, Ny Musik i Birkerød, festival of digital arts Re:New in Copenhagen, Melos-Étos Bratislava, Ars Nova Cassoviae in Košice, Quasars Ensemble &Košice, Konfrontácie in Nitra, at recitals in Bratislava Mirbach Palace and at Presentation of young concert artists. He released several recordings in the music label Hevhetia, the album of the Scandinavian music Flashing, the album Preludes and Fugues op.87 by Dmitri Shostakovich, works of Jozef Podprocký for accordion and the album Solo with works of world renowned authors. In addition to his concert and recording activities Peter Katina is also active as a music critic, journalist and a radio publicist. His articles, interviews and reviews were published in several music magazines. In 2014 Peter Katina launched a cycle of popularizing lectures on music called MusicZoom in the Kasárne/Kulturpark Košice. He is also the author of a regular music program Veľkí v malom in the Slovak Radio.
